The fact that I'm writing you this section in my web page on the 18th of November already tells you what happened to me. So here's what went down and it's pretty detailed so you don't have to read it all. If you want to get straight to my audition start reading where you see ***asteriks*** Around 10 A.M. they started herding us and moving us into the interior of the Rose Bowl which was all set up for the American Idol 2 competition. Our first destination was a table where we were given a sticker that had a number on it. It was kinda like a marathon runners number. There were THAT man people. After we got our numbers they took us to a big white tent that would be the initial waiting area for the competition. From that point on they lined us up in groups of 10. Now when we actually audition we would be grouped by fives so with me being #13230, I was the first for my crop of five. So they take us up this elevator to a room where there are about six rows and everyone is waiting to get their chance. After that they place us in the hallway near a door lettered from A to E. We get the letter D. ***So here I am now in the audition room with four other contestants, one of the producers Beth and her cameraman bitch boy, he didn't even have a name tag.*** She asks us our names and then we get to the singing. Since I'm number 230 I start off first with my song. About 20 seconds into it, she stops me and asks me can you sing any boy band stuff like *N Sync or Backstreet Boys. So I give it a second and just choose "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You". Honestly at one point I didn't even remember the words and kinda hummed it, but she said just keep going. Yeah great move B-Tong. So she goes through everyone and pretty much does the same thing. Then she says, "I will be calling out some of your numbers so that I can talk to you again. This does not mean you are moving on." Well she calls 234, 231...and 230! I step outside so she can talk to each of us individually. The first guy comes out empty handed, not a good sign. The second girl, Christine, is like REALLY built or artificially enhanced, I honestly couldn't REALLY tell which one it was. She walks out with a blue paper and that means she is moving on. So I get into the room and we start talking. She doesn't even ask me one music question, she just asks me to tell her about myself. So I tell her my journalism background, people that I admire and my main reason and motivation for doing this. If you haven't read already, my main reasons for doing this are in My Diary. After we talk she says, "You have a great voice so I'm moving you to the next round." She hands me my blue slip of paper and I am stoked. I'm immediately taken to the elevator and moving on up to the next level of the Facility for the Second round try-out. This time I'll have to sing in front of one of the two executive producers of the show. These two guys are the ones that created the whole concept of the show which originated in the U.K. I get to the floor and I line up at a door to try-out for the second round. This time I walk in, do a little small talk and then get to my song. I wasn't nervous or anything, but there is a long drawn out part on my song that I didn't support with air the second time around and it kinda died off. Right when it happened I knew I was a goner. So the executive producer says, "Brian, your voice was uncontrolled at times, you were short of breath on one sequence of the song, and your presentation and performance abilities need work. Pretty much, you're a great amateur singer." When he said that, I was thinking to myself...That's what I think I am too... So I shook the judges hands, left the room and it was over. Just like that. After waiting in line for three days, it was over. I felt good leaving because the talent was just so amazing out there. I met some amazing people and I have an awesome experience that I will always remember. So there it is. It's over now and now I'm back to the real world!!! |
